Hockey's Greatest Skate For America's Bravest
Our signature Massachusetts event features a full roster of Hockey All-Stars and Hollywood heavyweights facing off on the ice to support our firefighters. The weekend-long tribute includes a private dinner and golf tournament for firefighters, celebrities and Foundation sponsors. The event honors the six fallen heroes who perished in the line of duty at the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse fire in December 1999. Since its inception, the event has raised over $1.4 million for the fire departments of Boston and Worcester.
At the last CHT, some of the greatest hockey players of all time took to the ice at Boston's FleetCenter on Sunday, October 3rd, 2004 and helped raise $500,000 for The Leary Firefighters Foundation. The game itself was a shootout from the first drop of the puck as the MasterCard All-Stars, coached by Bobby Orr, Derek Sanderson and George Wendt, took on the EMC Corporation All-Stars who were coached by Lenny Clarke and Steve Tyler. Former New York Ranger Glenn Anderson (4 goals) teamed up with current Ranger Tom Poti (3 goals) to lead the scoring for the MasterCard team, who won the game 17-16. Cam Neely and Pat LaFontaine both had hat tricks and Michael J. Fox scored two goals for the EMC team, captained by Denis Leary. It was not enough, though, to overcome the efforts of Scott Wolf, Rick Middleton, Bryan Trottier, Mike Eruzione, Brendan Shanahan, team captain Johnny McKenzie and the rest of the MasterCard Squad.
Proceeds from The 5th Annual Celebrity Hat Trick, "Hockey's Greatest Skate for America's Bravest," were directed to The Foundation's campaign to assure completion funding for the Worcester Fire Department's training facility and to acquire a high speed fire rescue boat for the Boston Fire Department.
