Sports Marketing Internship (May-December 2010)

The Leary Firefighters Foundation/TEAM LFF and the  ING NYC Marathon

Description: The Leary Firefighters Foundation is offering an opportunity designed to provide students with a “real life” work experience marketing our  marathon team for the 2010 ING New York City Marathon. Our interns will be given a great deal of responsibility while covering a wide variety of tasks along with the Foundation’s normal non- profit business. This is an unpaid internship that can be done for college credit or for someone that is looking to gain experience in the sports industry. Please see your advisor regarding credit.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Interns will be highly involved in many of the team’s marketing initiatives including; event planning, involvement in the team’s community relations programming and grassroots marketing initiatives.
  • Interns will participate in assisting team members with their fundraising websites and overall team sponsorship.
  • Interns may spend time outside of the office on errands and procurement as needed.
  • Each intern is expected to be available the week preceeding and following the Marathon (October 31-November 15). Responsibilities may include goody bag stuffing, running marathon day cheering sections, cheering sections set-ups and breakdowns, assisting with team transportation, bag transporation and post marathon activities
  • Various administrative duties as requested.

Hours range from 24 – 30 hours per week, in addition to Marathon Day, Sunday, November 7. Interns must be available for the full day and night on Sunday Nov 7 on some nights and weekends, especially Marathon week- October 31- Nov 7

Job Requirements:

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Independent, multi-tasker with a willingness to think outside the box to incorporate sports marketing and non-profit philosophy. Computer skills and familiarity with working with social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Ning are essential. Proficient at internet research, Microsoft Word, Excel and mail merges.

Due to the cyclical nature of the Marathon, the intern may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Foundation.
