The Leary Firefighters Foundation, in partnership with The FDNY Foundation is proud to announce that construction on state-of the art High Rise training simulation facility began November 13th, 2007. This is our largest fundraising program to date: a technologically advanced High-Rise Simulator for the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall's Island.

High-rise, multiple dwelling fires are among the most complex and dangerous incidents for firefighters. These buildings hold in heat and fire gasses that can quickly spread, creating punishing conditions for fire personnel. The High-Rise Simulator will recreate the dangerous environment in which split-second, life or death decisions by firefighters are made. Current plans call for a 4,000 square foot, four-story addition to be built onto an existing building within the training complex. The completed building will incorporate a new, full-height scissor stairway, a Symtron Fire Simulator with flashover, a dry standpipe system and expanded area for mask confidence training and simulation of residential and office/commercial firefighting conditions. The practical skills learned through exercise in the Simulator will build the firefighter's knowledge and confidence and serve as an important tool in addressing the safety of both civilians and rescue personnel. Completion of this project is anticipated by the end of 2008.
