FirstResponder.gov
FirstResponder.gov debuted in January 2007 as a “one-stop” portal to enable federal, tribal, state and local first responders to easily access and leverage federal Web services, information on resources, products, standards, testing and evaluation, and best practices. In 2010 DHS unveiled a newly redesigned and enhanced FirstResponder.gov, which includes original news stories and communication tools to help first responders engage directly with DHS. The new FirstResponder.gov features the First Responder blog and “Tell Us Your Story,” an area for site users to send ideas for future articles, links or blog posts directly to DHS. Another new site element, “Success Stories,” displays DHS-funded technologies by state on a clickable U.S. map. FirstResponder.gov hosts the R-Tech Newsletter, which discusses technologies of interest to first responders that have received funding, in part, from the federal, state, or local government.

Tech Solutions-Dept. of Homeland Security
The TechSolutions Program was established by the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate to provide information, resources and technology solutions that address mission capability gaps identified by the emergency response community. The goal of TechSolutions is to field technologies that meet 80% of the operational requirement, in a 12 to 15 month time frame, at a cost commensurate with the proposal. Goals will be accomplished through rapid prototyping or the identification of existing technologies that satisfy identified requirements.
To be eligible to submit a capability gap, you must be an active/retired first responder. If you are a first responder who has identified a capability gap that impacts multiple departments or sectors of the first response community or have an idea that would aid fellow first responders in doing their job faster, safer, and more efficiently, please relay your idea or capability gap to the DHS TechSolutions Program by clicking the “Submit A Capability Gap” button below.
On the left hand side, one can look at a list of currently funded technologies such as the “Next Generation Breathing Apparatus” which will be a great new technology for firefighters!
