The Leary Firefighters Foundation is pleased to announce that it awarded a $25,000 grant to the Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation to provide personal life safety systems to departments in need in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
The Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation was established in 2012 to carry on the memory of Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo, FDNY, who died from injuries suffered at a fatal fire in January 2005 in the Bronx, New York, a fire which came to be known as “Black Sunday”. Two firefighters died at the scene of the fire; Lt. DiBernardo survived the fire but ultimately lost his life on November 22, 2011 as a result of the injuries he sustained.
In his honor and to continue his legacy, Joey’s parents and friends started the Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation to provide financial aid to fire departments in the United States and Canada who are in need of purchasing personal life safety rope systems and/or attending educational training seminars related to firefighter life safety.
